Artist Profile

My work largely focuses on LGBTQ+ culture and the impact it has on the contemporary world at large, specifically drag culture. My vision is to not only blur the boundaries between highbrow and lowbrow culture, by bringing drag into the Fine Art scope of appeal, but also to spark discussions around gender and sexuality in the 21stcentury.

I enjoy creating work based around the relationship between masculinity and femininity in the human consciousness, the issues which arise around these connections and identity as a whole. Using my own body in drag as a conduit - enrolling into the ongoing debate for the rights of queer minorities - I attempt to tackle the inequality and discrimination that LGBTQ+ people face in their everyday lives by radicalising gender through drag performance. I feel that the artform of drag, regardless of performance location, illuminates matters across gender and sexuality by criticising and subverting the societal expectations of gender but also celebrating gay/queer individuality and pride.
